The 120th Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 18th, 2016, Patriots' Day in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Boston Athletic Association announced it's 2016 registration dates today! Needless to say I am pretty excited as this will be my first time running the Boston Marathon!!
The registration process is kind of tricky. It's not enough just to run your qualifying time these days. Due to the popularity of the event, the BAA opens registration to the fastest runners first. Those that have run 20 minutes or more under their qualifying time will get to enter on Monday, September 14th, 2015 at 10:00am ET.
If space remains, those running 10 minutes or more under their qualifying time can register on Wednesday, September 16th at 10:00am ET.
If space remains, those running 5 minutes or more under their qualifying time will be able to register on Friday, September 18th at 10:00am ET. Registration will close at 10:00pm ET on Saturday, September 19th.
If space remains after the first week of registration, registration will re-open on Monday, September, 21st (my Birthday!) at 10:00am ET through Wednesday, September 23rd at 5:00pm ET. This will not be first-come, first-served. The fastest qualifiers in their age/gender groups will be selected first.
After all that, if there are any spaces left, registration will re-open on Monday, September 29th to anyone that meets the qualifying standards. This WILL be first-come, first-served and registration will then remain open until the field fills! Field size will be determined this summer.
Cost for the 2016 Boston Marathon is $180 for US residents and $240 for international residents.
